Palazzo della Carovana, home to the Scuola Normale Superiore in Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa, and the headquarters of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Piazza Martiri delle Libertà, will also be illuminated to mark the third anniversary of the Pisa Interuniversity Help Desk Against Gender Violence, a service set up by the three universities in Pisa to combat all forms of discrimination and violence and run by the Casa della Donna di Pisa (Pisa Women's Center). The initiative will take place on Thursday, June 5, at 8 p.m. Together with the Palazzo della Carovana and the headquarters of the Scuola Sant'Anna, Palazzo Vitelli on Lungarno Pacinotti will also be lit up in purple (the color chosen as a symbol against discrimination and gender violence) for the University of Pisa.

Please note that the Help Desk is free, anonymous, with no obligation to report incidents, and is run by specialized professionals. You can contact the Help Desk by calling 050 2215104 or by writing to antiviolenza@ateneipisa.it.

The evening will continue at 9 p.m. at the Cineclub Arsenale with a free screening of Sebastián Lelio's ‘Una donna fantastica’ (A Fantastic Woman), which will close the third edition of the film festival ‘Un altro genere di cinema’ (Another Kind of Cinema).

“This symbolic initiative was designed to highlight the importance of raising awareness of the problem of gender discrimination and violence, which each of us is called upon to combat every day, and to remind people that there is a dedicated service available, the result of joint efforts by the three universities,” said Federica Cengarle, advisor for Tutoring and Psychological Wellbeing at the Scuola Normale.

"With this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting an academic environment based on respect, fairness, and the prevention of all forms of violence, harassment, and discrimination. The help desk is a fundamental resource for listening to, supporting, and guiding people who are experiencing situations of distress or insecurity. Its presence testifies to the shared desire to build a safe, inclusive university community that is attentive to the rights and well-being of all," adds Elena Vivaldi, Vice Rector of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies for inclusion, disability, and gender equality policies.
